On October 23, 2019, the Ontario government announced that they will be increasing the Small Claims Court monetary jurisdiction from $25,000.00 to $35,000.00, essentially providing more Ontario residents with an affordable option to resolve their legal disputes before the courts.

Attorney General, Doug Downey, stated is quoted on the Ontario's Ministry of the Attorney General website, that "Our government is increasing the maximum claim limit for Small Claims Court to help people and businesses spend less time in courtrooms and less money on costly lawyer fees... As a result of the change, more people will be able to file and respond to claims using less expensive representation, such as paralegals and law students, or through self-representation."
